Canada's steelmaking coal story
Steelmaking coal, also known as metallurgical coal or met coal, is critical to producing steel. From bridges and hospitals to transit systems, vehicles, wind turbines, and energy infrastructure, steel is the backbone of the modern world. And for more than 70% of global steel production, steelmaking coal remains an essential part of the process.
Despite its importance, misinformation and misunderstandings about steelmaking coal persist. Meet Coal was developed to provide Canadians with easy-to-understand information about the commodity, its production, and its role in Canada’s economy.
